Keto Lifestyle

What is the ketogenic diet?

Our bodies are used to using carbohydrates for fuel. All carbs from the food we eat are processed & broken down into glucose is usually the body’s main source of energy. When you eat more carbs than you use immediately your body stores the excess glucose in the liver & muscles as muscle glycogen. Glycogen gets used for energy except when you’ve eaten too much & the extra gets stored as, you guessed it, FAT.

when you follow a KETOGENIC lifestyle, eating fewer carbs, your body begins to use more fat as energy & store less fat. YAY

You feel better, think more clearly, loose weight, appetite decreases and many areas of health may improve.

3 Health & Wellness Tips to get you through the work week.
1. Load up on anti oxidants 🥗🥙🥦🍊🍋
High natural concentrations of free radical scavengers are found in barley grass, sprouts & dark green vegetables among other nutrients. I mention these because they are easy & quick to eat or use as a powder mixed with water.
2. Drink plenty of water. 1-2 litres per day. 💦
3. Meditate at least 3 times during your work week. It’s great for stress reduction. There is plenty of meditation tracks to be found on the net. 🧘‍♀️

BIKINI BODY IN TIME FOR SUMMER

Everyone wants to feel good in their swimwear. No matter what your size, age and shape. We all gain a bit of self confidence when we prepare ourselves for the Summer season on the beach.

The best way to prepare is to eat well and start early. When do you start? I believe Winter is the best time to get started on our Summer body and Winter is now only days away here in Australia.

EAT WELL DON’T DIET

Developing a healthy relationship with food means understanding how you can enjoy delicious food and stay in control of your weight. Forget about so called good or bad foods, its about learning how all foods can be enjoyed, in moderation, as part of your healthy, and of course balanced diet.

HERE ARE SOME TOP TIPS FOR SUCCESS

  1. Get organised – Prepare for the coming week by making the week’s shopping list before you go shopping. Decide what meals you would like to enjoy to help you create your Summer body and jot down what you’ll need on the list.
  2. Stay hydrated – Be very vigilant  to keep up your water intake, approximately 1.5 – 2 litres per day. If you’re like me and are not a fan of plain water you can switch it up and have sparkling, or soda water perhaps with a squeeze of lime or lemon juice in it. Water is needed to help the body’s cells function and get rid of waste.
  3. Remember to eat regularly and eat enough of the healthy foods. Your body needs nutrition. Skipping meals or eating tiny amounts will just leave you feeling hungry and cranky. Eventually you feel deprived and give up.
  4. Eat three portioned meals per day plus three snacks to keep hunger at bay.
  5. Put your meals on a plate or in a bowl and sit down to enjoy your meal.

EAT ACROSS THE RAINBOW – enjoy fruits and vegetables in a rainbow of colours to ensure you are getting a good range of nutrients.

And finally when you go out to eat be mindful of your portion sizes. Just because the restaurant serves up a giant plate full of food does not mean you have to eat it all at once. You could just leave it. You could ask for a take away container and eat the leftover for another meal. Or if your husband / partner is like mine, tall skinny with hollow legs and can eat anything without gaining weight, just ask them if they would like to finish off your plate!

WHAT I REALLY WANT TO POINT OUT HERE IS THAT WE ARE NOT ALL MEANT TO BE SUPER SKINNY SUPER MODELS. WE ARE UNIQUE. WE ARE WOMEN MEANT TO HAVE CURVES. WE ARE NOT AIMING FOR PERFECTION. OUR AGES ARE ALL DIFFERENT SO BE REALISTIC ABOUT YOUR SHAPE.

AND MOST OF ALL BE HAPPY. DON’T LIVE YOUR LIFE WISHING YOU WERE SOMEONE ELSE. BE CONFIDENT. BE REAL. BE YOU.

TRUST YOUR GUT BOSS BABE

HOW TO KEEP YOUR MICROBIOME HEALTHY – AND STAY YOUNGER LONGER

1. FEED IT – Look guys its a no brainer. One of the most easily modifiable factors is the food you eat. Switching from highly processed food diet to one loaded with fruits in moderation, vegetables, lean protein and fermented foods (like pickles, & sauerkraut) promotes beneficial bacteria for that “Whoa I feel so good feeling”.

2. AVOID ANTIBIOTICS – These guys are a major cause of harmful gut imbalances. Steer clear unless absolutely necessary.

3. GET OUTSIDE – Exposure to a broad range of environments, particularly outside, may improve the microbial diversity in your gut. In other words guys don’t be afraid to get a little dirt on your hands.

Healthy Fats & Anti Oxidants = Great Skin

This little message is about the role healthy fats and cholesterol play in the production of our hormones. Cholesterol is essential for the production of hormones as well as our brain health and other important functions. Whilst having too much of one kind of cholesterol is not healthy for our arteries or heart a balance of all kinds is needed. As is discussed regularly when talking nutrition we need to decrease the intake of fatty meats and replace them with healthy oily fish such as salmon, sardines & mackerel.

As we age our reproductive hormones naturally decrease but they do not disappear and they still need the ingredients necessary to produce them. This requires that we maintain a diet that provides those nutrients. Below are some of the foods that are enormously healthy for us and also assist anti aging of the skin and the brain.

Omega 3. Flaxseed oil, walnuts, pumpkinseeds, Brazil nuts, sesame seeds, avocados, dark green vegetables such as spinach, salmon, mackerel, sardines, anchovies, tuna.

Omega 6. Flaxseed oil, pumpkin seeds, pine nuts, pistachios, sunflower seeds, olive oil, evening primrose oil, chicken.

Omega 9. Olive oil, olives, avocado, almonds, sesame oil, pecans, pistachio, cashews.

Heat and oxygen destroy essential fatty acids so keep oils in dark glass containers.

If you want healthy, younger looking good skin be aware of your nutritional intake.
